Toward Awakening is a slow publication. It writes about pilgrimage, sacred places, and what travel does to the interior life. This page describes how that writing is made.

Lived, not researched

Places of pilgrimage described here have been walked or visited. Where a sacred site is discussed without a visit, the essay is framed as a reflection rather than a guide.

Respect for the traditions described

Sacred places belong to the communities who keep them. Practices, dress requirements and access rules are described accurately and followed. Where a site is closed to visitors of a particular faith, the essay says so plainly.

On not speaking for others

Maya Patel writes from her own practice. She does not claim authority over traditions she was not raised in, and where a teacher or lineage is referenced it is named.

Photographs

Photographs are taken with permission and never during worship. Where a place asks not to be photographed, it is not photographed.

Corrections

If something here misrepresents a tradition or a place, write to contact@towardawakeningtravel.com. That matters more than a factual error.
